Freshmen take home UOIT student-athlete of the week awards
OSHAWA, Ont. – Freshmen stole the show this past week as Kayla De Souza and Tori Campbell have been named the UOIT student-athletes of the week, which are presented by Boston Pizza – North Oshawa.
Despite playing with a lower body injury, De Souza (Scarborough, Ont.) had an outstanding weekend in the Ridgebacks two victories. On Saturday against Brock, she scored the Ridgebacks first goal of the game as she broke past the Badger defence early in the second half and buried her second goal of the year. On Sunday, De Souza set up Sara Voisin for the only goal of the game against McMaster.
Tori Campbell (Lethbridge, Alta.) made her OUA debut in between the pipes this weekend, as she earned a pair of 2-1 road victories. UOIT went on to beat Queen's and Toronto. The Criminology and Justice major stopped 48 of 50 shots, leading the Ridgebacks to wins over Queen’s and Toronto.
It was a big week for both programs as the women’s soccer team moved into a tie for fourth place in the OUA western conference while the women’s hockey team recorded their first 2-0 start in program history.
