Stoughton and Worthington named UOIT student-athletes of the week

OSHAWA, Ont. – Sarah Worthington (Whitby, Ont.) and Jesse Stoughton (Bobcaygeon, Ont.) have been named the UOIT student-athletes of the week presented by Boston Pizza North Oshawa for the period ending February 2.

Worthington, a fifth year communications major on the women’s hockey team, scored a goal and an assist in the Ridgebacks’ 3-1 victory over the York Lions on Saturday afternoon to extend the team’s winning streak to four games. She has been on fire as of late scoring eight points in her last six games. Worthington and UOIT’s other graduating seniors will be honoured prior to Sunday’s regular season home finale against the University of Guelph.

Stoughton, a third year criminology, justice and policy studies major on the men’s hockey team, recorded four points (two goals and two assists) in UOIT’s 6-1 victory over the Laurentian Voyageurs. The next night, Stoughton picked up an assist on Jason Shaw’s game-tying goal against Carleton with a minute left on the clock and the goalie pulled. Stoughton is averaging a point per game this season.

The women’s team will have back-to-back home games this weekend as they host Brock (Saturday) and Guelph (Sunday). Puck drop for both matches is at 3:30 p.m. The men’s team will be on the road for their three remaining conference games as they look to clinch a playoff spot.
