Goaltenders take home UOIT student-athlete of the week awards
OSHAWA, Ont. – UOIT goaltenders Colin Dzijacky (Thunder Bay, Ont.) and Cassie Charette (Ottawa, Ont.) have been named the UOIT student-athletes of the week presented by Boston Pizza North Oshawa for the period ending November 24.

Freshman goaltender Colin Dzijacky led the Ridgebacks to back-to-back wins over the No. 6 ranked Lakehead Thunderwolves. Dzijacky, who grew up playing minor hockey in Thunder Bay, played 114:56 minutes of shutout hockey before allowing a single Thunderwolves goal late in the third period of the second game of the weekend. The software engineering major stopped 71 of 72 Lakehead shots. Friday night’s 1-0 win marked his first career shutout

Charette, a biological science major, also recorded her first career shutout as the Ridgebacks defeated Ryerson by a score of 1-0. Charette stopped all 30 Ryerson shots including 11 in the third period to lead UOIT to their eighth conference victory of the season. In six games, Charette has posted a 2.43 goals against average with a .914 save percentage.

Both hockey teams will be out in the community this week as the women’s team will be attending the grand re-opening of Harman Park Arena on Friday, November 29 and the men’s team will be attending the Rotary Skate-a-Thon on Sunday, December 1.
