Lam and Demaiter named UOIT student-athletes of the week

OSHAWA, Ont. – Tessa Lam (Brooklin, Ont.) and Allison Demaiter (Belleville, Ont.) have been named the UOIT student-athletes of the week for the period ending Nov. 3.

Lam, a third-year Kinesiology major, led the UOIT women’s field lacrosse team to their first-ever win at the OUA championship this weekend in Kingston. In the team’s second game of the championship, UOIT defeated the York Lions by a score of14-6, as Lam allowed only two second half goals in net for the Ridgebacks. The six-goal win is UOIT’s largest margin of victory in program history.

Demaiter, a fourth-year Criminology and Justice studies major, won the “B” finals at the Canadian University Rowing Association (CURA) national championship finishing the course with a time of 9:32.29. The Belleville native edged out Erika Giovanetti of McMaster by just three seconds to win the finals. This marked Demaiter’s second trip to the CURA championship as she was a member of the women’s 8+ crew who made UOIT’s debut at nationals in 2011.
