OSHAWA, Ont. – George Meditskos (Toronto, Ont.) of the men's soccer team and Taijah Henderson (Ajax, Ont.) of the women's soccer team have been named the UOIT student-athletes of the week for the period ending September 24.
 
Henderson, led the No. 2 ranked Ridgebacks to victory on Saturday over the No. 8 ranked Queen's Gaels, scoring both goals in the 2-1 win. After a goalless opening 45 minutes, she opened the scoring in the 46^th minute of the match. Queen's tied the game in the 76^th minute, but with stoppage time underway she noticed the Gaels keeper was out of position and placed the ball in the top right corner of the net from mid-field to keep UOIT's win streak alive. To cap off her weekend she scored two more goals in Sunday's 4-0 victory over the RMC Paladins. With the four-goal weekend she leads the OUA in scoring with eight goals.
 
This week both soccer teams travel to Peterborough for their lone matches of the week against the Trent Excalibur. Kick off is scheduled for 1 and 3:15 p.m.
 
The UOIT athlete of the week award is presented by Subway located at 2069 Simcoe Street North in Oshawa.
