OSHAWA, Ont. – Brendan O’Neill (Ilderton, Ont.) of the men’s hockey team has been named the UOIT student-athlete of the week presented by Subway.
 
O’Neill, a criminology & justice studies student, secured his third career shutout against the UQTR Patriotes on Friday. The Ridgebacks finished their regular season with the 2-0 win as O’Neill turned aside all 26 shots that came his way. This stellar defence allowed UOIT to get its first ever win against UQTR as they lost the last 13 times these teams faced off. O’Neill looks to be good form as the Ridgebacks head into the playoffs with their star goalie having a 2.34 GAA and a very impressive .928 SA% over the course of the season.
 
The Ridgebacks are back in action with their first playoff game happening this Wednesday, Feb. 15 against the Concordia Stingers. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
 
The UOIT athlete of the week awards are presented by Subway located at 2069 Simcoe Street North in Oshawa.
