Chen, a kinesiology student, was the Ridgebacks top athlete in the badminton team’s head-to-head matchup against the Ryerson Rams on Sunday. Chen lost his singles match 2-0 to Oscar Thompson, but was close to winning the first match in program history after falling 18-21 and 19-21. In his men’s doubles match with Jonas Albaira they led the majority of the first game, but couldn’t close out Cliff Yuen and Morgan Li, losing 21-23. In the second game they lost 16-21.
 
This Sunday the badminton team is in Markham for the IUCC Mandarin event.
 
The UOIT athlete of the week awards are presented by Subway located at 2069 Simcoe Street North in Oshawa.
