A native of Whitby, Ont., Tyra Prince brings NCAA Division I playing and coaching experience to the Ontario Tech University women’s lacrosse program. She spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Eastern Michigan University after beginning her collegiate coaching career at Central Michigan University. While at CMU, she helped guide the program to its first Mid-American Conference Championship, first NCAA Tournament appearance, and a program-record 12-win season.
Prince has coached multiple All-Conference players, including the 2024 MAC Defensive Player of the Week, the 2024 MAC Offensive Player of the Week, the 2023 MAC Freshman of the Year, and the 2022 MAC Offensive Player of the Year. Her experience also includes serving as the Director of Player Development for the Lady Blue Knights Lacrosse Association and coaching with Team Ontario U15.
Off the field, Prince has contributed to the sport at a national and collegiate level, serving as Chair of the IWLCA Nominating Committee, as a member of the IWLCA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, and on the Lacrosse Canada Gender Equity Committee. She also co-hosted the Coaches Are People Too podcast, highlighting leadership, culture, and personal growth in sport.
As a player, Prince was a five-year starter and four-year team captain at Central Michigan University. She earned First Team All-MAC honors in 2021, Second Team All-Southern Conference honors in 2018, and Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team recognition in 2017, along with multiple academic awards. She was part of CMU’s first Southern Conference Regular Season Championship in 2018.
Prince holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with minors in Legal Studies and Child Development, and a Master’s of Science in Administration (Value-Driven Organization) from Central Michigan University.
