Maiorano joined the Ridgebacks coaching staff after a two-year stint with the team in which he accomplished a number of firsts for the young program.
In his first season with UOIT, Maiorano established himself as a leader on the backline and contributed to the much improved defence, one that reduced the team’s goals against to 39 from 63 a season ago. Following the season, he was recognized by the OUA as a league all-star. The following year, Maiorano was once again honoured as a league all-star, where the Ridgebacks defensive unit continued to improve as the team allowed 29 goals against in 16 league games, going on to set program highs in wins and points in a season.
Maiorano also racked up a number of awards at the UOIT athletic banquet being named the 2011 athlete of the year and 2012 leadership award winner. He also earned back-to-back men’s soccer MVP awards.
Maiorano was noticed by scouts following his university career as he was invited to the United Soccer League draft combine in Florida. The USL combine provides an opportunity for elite men's soccer players to showcase their talents for both domestic and international scouts and professional coaches. Following the combine, he earned a spot on the Chicago Inferno of the Premier Development League.
Prior to attending UOIT, Maiorano played in the NCAA with Lakeland College and Cleveland State University. At Lakeland, he was a two-time NSCAA first team All-Region, two-time OCCAC All-Conference & an All-American in 2009.
Although Maiorano’s university playing days are over, he is still playing at a high level as a member of the Scarborough City Celtic in the men's Provincial Elite League.
