Varsity Athletic Therapy specializes in injury and illness prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation services and athlete education to every student-athlete. The Ontario Tech University Varsity Athletic Therapy Clinic is committed to being a leader in sports medicine services. Athletic Therapy takes an active and progressive approach to rehabilitation of sports related injuries. The Athletic Therapists work in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team of health care professionals within the Health Centre to provide our varsity athletes with the most appropriate care. On site medical coverage is provided to all teams by our Athletic Therapists, in conjunction with student trainers from the Ontario Tech University Health Sciences Kinesiology program.

Athletic Therapy is provided free-of-charge to the varsity athletes.  

The Athletic Therapy Clinic is located within the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre inside the Health Centre. The clinic provides services to our varsity athletes who play intercollegiate sports.

Hours of Operation:
August to April
Monday - Friday: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: Closed

May to July
Monday - Thursday: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30p.m.

Services for varsity athletes include:

  • Anti doping and drug seminars
  • Postural and gait analysis
  • Preventative strength and stretching exercises
  • Brace and equipment fitting
  • Manual treatment for sport related injuries (both acute and overuse related)
  • Ultrasound/laser/electrical modalities
  • Heat and cold therapy
  • Sport specific rehabilitation, stretching, and strengthening exercise

 

The Athletic Therapy Clinic operates by appointment only.

Cancellation Policy
We require one hours notice for cancellation without penalty. All missed appointments without a one hour notification will be charged a $20.00 "NO SHOW" fee.

Jessica has been with Ontario Tech University since 2007. Graduating from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Science Honours Kinesiology degree, she then obtained a Diploma in Sports Injury Management from Sheridan College, and a Master of Health Science degree from Ontario Tech University.

Since joining the university, Jessica has taught in the Faculty of Health Sciences – designing and teaching the Intro to Injury Management and Advanced Injury Management courses yearly since 2010. She also supervises the Athletic Therapy placement for 4th year Kinesiology students who support the Durham College and Ontario Tech varsity teams. 

As an Athletic Therapist, Jessica has had the pleasure of working at many provincial and national sport events including the CIS/USPORTS Men's Hockey and men’s and women’s Soccer Championships, as well Canadian Rugby Nationals each year from 2003-2013. Jessica also had the opportunity to work at the 2010 Vancouver Paralympics Games, as a member of the medical staff for men's sledge hockey, and she was the Athletic Therapist for the Canadian men’s U18 national rugby team from 2013-2016.

Saul has worked with Durham College and Ontario Tech University since 2011. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2007 at York University. He then returned to York and obtained his Athletic Therapy Certificate in 2010.

Saul actually got his first start in the Oshawa area working with a variety of football teams in the Oshawa Hawkeyes organization. After completing his certification he worked at a private multidisciplinary clinic in Woodbridge for several years. He was able to work at the 2015 Pan-Am Games at the track and field venue. His experience at Durham College and Ontario Tech has allowed him to work at multiple provincial and national championships. He was also a CATA Merit Award winner in 2017. Saul has previously taught as sessional lecturer at Durham College with the Fitness & Health Promotion program and is now a lab instructor at Ontario Tech University.

The student trainer of the year is recognized for their dedication and commitment to the varsity athletic therapy department and exemplifies the hard work both academically and practically in the field while working alongside our varsity teams.
