OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech men's hockey team came up just short on Saturday afternoon, falling 4–3 to the Ottawa Gee-Gees at the Campus Ice Centre.
Ottawa opened the scoring early in the first period before the Ridgebacks found their footing in the middle frame. Ontario Tech tied the game at 1–1 on the power play at 1:59 of the second, as
Ben Roode finished a setup from
Braiden Koran and
Ludovic Dufort. After Ottawa regained the lead later in the period, the Ridgebacks responded again, with
Zachary Marquis scoring at even strength at 10:01 off a feed from
Ishan Mittoo to make it 2–2 heading into the second intermission.
Ontario Tech carried momentum into the third period and took its first lead of the afternoon when Mittoo struck shorthanded at 3:52, capitalizing on a pass from
Gabriel Bernier. Ottawa answered with two goals in a minute midway through the period to regain the lead.
Despite a late push and sustained pressure in the final minutes, the Ridgebacks were unable to find the equalizer.
Beckett Langkow made 29 saves in goal for the Ridgebacks.
Ontario Tech returns to action next weekend when they host the Queen's Gaels on Friday, February 13, at the Campus Ice Centre at 7 p.m.
