OTTAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech men's basketball team pulled off a thrilling 66-64 upset over the no. 8 ranked Carleton Ravens on Friday night at the Ravens' Nest.
Zubair Seyed led the Ridgebacks with a game-high 21 points, shooting 8-for-18 from the field and adding six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Emmanuel Okonkwo contributed eight points, six rebounds and two blocks, while Raeshaun Ambris added nine points and two assists.
Ontario Tech controlled the pace early, taking a 16-14 lead after the first quarter. The teams remained close at halftime with the Ridgebacks ahead 32-29. Carleton stormed back with a 25-point third quarter to grab the lead, but Ontario Tech responded with a strong final frame, outscoring the Ravens 21-10 to secure the win. The Ridgebacks' defence held Carleton to just 10 points in the fourth, including a clutch block with just seconds remaining in the game.
Seyed received the inbounds pass shortly after, and with four seconds to work with on the clock, found a floater just outside of the paint to take a two point lead as time expiered.
The Ridgebacks will take on another ranked team tomorrow when they take on the Ottawa Gee-Gee's at 5 p.m. in Ottawa, Ont.
