Ridgebacks fall short in home tilt against Nipissing Lakers

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech women's hockey team couldn't keep pace with the Nipissing Lakers on Friday night, falling 4-1 at the Campus Ice Centre.

Julia Jackson stood out for Ontario Tech, notching the team's lone goal—a power-play marker in the third period with assists from Kayla Welk and Julianne Davidson. Goaltender Zoe McGee put in a valiant effort between the pipes, turning aside 28 of 32 shots.

Nipissing struck first in the opening frame, with Madison Laberge converting on the power play at 11:32. The Lakers dominated the second period, outshooting the Ridgebacks 17-1 and adding two more goals—Melissa Svienson with another power-play tally and Megan Hayhurst with an even-strength goal.

The third period saw Nipissing extend their lead to 4-0 as Ashley Taciuk capitalized on another power-play opportunity. Jackson's goal at 15:58 offered the Ridgebacks some consolation, but it wasn't enough to mount a comeback.

The Ridgebacks are back in action tomorrow night at the Campus Ice Centre when they take on the York Lions at 7 p.m.
