OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ridgebacks women's hockey team lost an important game in their hunt for the playoffs as the Nipissing Lakers beat them 5-2 on Friday night.
After a scoreless first perod, Nipissing's Maggie McKee opened the scoring, and Katie Chomiak would follow it to make it a two goal lead. The Ridgebacks would respond with a goal from Lauren Beaulieu, (Caistorville, Ont.) that featured the rare goalie assist from Zoe McGee (Kanata, Ont.) but Katie Chomiak would strike again to make it 3-1 at the end of the second.
Julianne Davidson (Courtice, Ont.) found the second Ridgebacks goal on the power play in the third period before Nipissing would find a late goal and an empty netter.
Despite the score it was a tight game until the end where the Lakers managed to get two quick ones passed Zoe McGee. (Kanata, Ont.) who allowed five goals on 33 shots.
The Ridgebacks play the York Lions on Thursday in one of the most pivotal games remaining and then wrap the season up at home on Saturday once again against the Nipissing Lakers.
