Ridgebacks end season on high note with win over Nipissing

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech women's hockey team ended their season on a high note with a 3-2 win over the Nipissing Lakers.

Before the game, the Ridgebacks honored their graduating seniors Paige Wagner (Cambridge, Ont.), Emily Davis-Tope (Bendigo, Australia), and Nicole Escano (Kingston, Ont.), along with their student-trainer Carter Aitchison. There was also a puck drop to celebrate long-time equipment manager Sam Keane.

Once the game started, Leigh Burkitt (Nepean, Ont.) struck less than two minutes into the first period with an unassisted goal. Nipissing would follow up with their own goal from Abby Lunney 15 minutes into the first.

The Ridgebacks began to take control of the game in the second, picking up a power play goal from Lauren Beaulieu (Caistorville, Ont.) with assists from Katie Mikkelsen (Oshawa, Ont.) and Julianne Davidson (Courtice, Ont.). Kayla Welk (Barrie, Ont.) would pick up the third Ridgebacks goal of the evening shortly after.

With eight minutes remaining in the third period, the Lakers would pull their keeper in search of a way back into the game, and Maggie McKee found Nipissing's second goal shortly after.

Jalyn St. Louis (Holland Landing, Ont.) started in net for the Ridgebacks and made 31 saves, including several key stops in the final minutes to keep the game at 3-2 for the Ridgebacks.
