Ravens defeat Ridgebacks after tight first half

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ridgebacks women's basketball team played the top-ranked Carleton Ravens hard on Friday evening but eventually fell 84-57.

The game featured a court side Staff Appreciation Night with hundreds of Ontario Tech staff cheering on the Ridgebacks and one of the year's biggest crowds.

The game also saw the return of former Ridgeback Hadeza Ismaila, who is pursuing her Masters of Legal Studies at Carleton after a four-year career at Ontario Tech.

The Ridgebacks started the game strong, surging to an early lead behind hot three-point shooting from Allie Dunnett (Sussex, N.B.), who had 17 points on the game. The Ravens eventually found their rhythm offensively behind their star player, Kali Pocrnic, and took a 22-17 lead after one quarter.

The game remained tight throughout the second quarter, with Adra Barnet (Winnipeg, Man.) scoring 14 points and dishing five assists. Elliot Cowan (Chatham, Ont.) also chipped in eight points and four rebounds. The Ridgebacks trailed 38-33 heading into the half.

The Ravens would take control of the game after the half, with Pocrnic leading the way with 20 points.

The Ridgebacks will be back in action tomorrow night for their final game of the regular season when they take on the Ottawa Gee-Gees at 4 p.m. and honour their graduating seniors before the game.
