HAMILTON, Ont. – The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks men's soccer program is going to the OUA finals for the first time in program history after a win over the McMaster Marauders on penalty kicks.
The two teams traded momentum throughout the match and had nearly even chances on net, with
Kevon Grant making several diving saves in the final moment to keep the Ridgebacks in the game. Ontario Tech continued to look for crosses into the box targeting
Alexander Irwin,
Kairo Coore and
Erion Metaj but where unable to breakthrough in regulation.
The ebbs and flows continued into overtime, but with neither team able to find the net it came down to penalty kicks as a deciding factor. The Ridgebacks converted on four straight attempts from Irwin, Coore,
Alex Maadanian and
Koby Greaves, while
Kevon Grant denied Amir Shirazi and Jacobo Cordon to pick up the win and advance to the OUA finals.
With the win Ontario Tech will be on the road one final time before nationals when they make a stop at the York Lions Stadium to take on the York Lions for the right to be called the champions of the OUA. The OUA finals will take place on Saturday, November 2 with a time to be determined.
