LONDON, Ont. – The Ontario Tech women's hockey team pulled out a dramatic overtime victory on Saturday afternoon with a 3-2 thriller over the Western Mustangs.
Baie Marcantonio (New Westminster, B.C.) opened the scoring with an assist from
Kayla Welk (Barrie, Ont.) and
Harrie Jones (Ottawa, Ont.) followed up later in the first period to make it 2-0 for the Ridgebacks. Western would claw their way back into the game through two power play goals from Elizabeth Gauthier and Alyssa Wouda in the second and third periods.
In overtime,
Katie Mikkelsen (Oshawa, Ont.) picked up the puck at the point and found the back of the net to seal the win for the Ridgebacks, who have successfully turned their season around from a rough start, to find themselves fighting for a playoff spot.
The Ridgebacks will continue their roadtrip tomorrow when they stop in Windsor at 4 p.m., and will return home to Oshawa on Feb. 2.
