Stand-out Ridgebacks midfielder
Trivine Esprit has officially signed a U SPORTS contract with Canadian Premier League (CPL) team York United.
Esprit was selected with the eleventh pick of the 2023 CPL U SPORTS draft and continued to train with York United while playing with League 1 Ontario's Darby FC. Esprit also received a development permit contract earlier in the season from York United and became the first Ridgeback to appear in a CPL game in York United's 2-1 win over Atletico Ottawa on June 9.Â
York United will now have Esprit under contract until at least August 1, where they'll have to make the choice to convert the contract to a full-time one before Esprit returns to the Ridgebacks for the preseason.
During Esprit's first year with the Ridgebacks, he was named an OUA second-team all-star and won the Ridgebacks men's soccer rookie of the year award while finishing the season with one goal and one assist and playing an integral role in advancing the Ridgebacks' offence.Â
"It's great news to see Trivine has signed U SPORT contract with York United," said Riddgebacks head coach
Ramin Mohammadi. "We are all proud of him. His commitment, hard work, and patience have paid off. We look forward to seeing him on the pitch and the impact he can make."
