OSHAWA, Ont. –  The Ontario Tech women's basketball team opened their season at home with a 83-43 loss to the Laurentian Voyageurs.
 
The Ridgebacks started five first year students due to dealing with some injuries to start the year, including the absence of Elliot Cowan (Chatham, Ont.)
 
Despite the lopsided score the team came out much hungrier in the second half and managed to weather the storm as much as they could. Felicity Villarin, (Calgary, Alta.) led the team in points with 12, shooting about 36 per cent.
 
The Ridgebacks are back in action Sunday at 1 p.m. hosting the Nippissing Lakers.
