OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ridgebacks men's basketball team picked up their biggest win in program history to date on Sunday evening, taking down the nationally ranked Queen's Gaels 78-75.
The Ridgebacks were led by
Keon Baker's (Pickering, Ont.) 23 points and three rebounds, but Ontario Tech relied on several players to make key plays down the stretch to close out the game.
Zubair Seyed (Cambridge, Ont.) picked up 15 points and and six rebounds, while
Ayub Nurhussien was one rebound shy of a doule-double with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Both teams battled for the lead throughout the contest, with Queen's mounting an early lead behind Luka Sylas' 20 point performance, but the Ridgebacks sprang back to life with a 24-12 second quarter.
The win marks the Ridgebacks first victory over a ranked opponent in their short history as a program.
The Ridgebacks will be back in action on Nov. 25 when they take on the seventh ranked nationally TMU Bold at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
