OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ridgebacks came out on top in a battle of nationally ranked teams on Sunday afternoon, taking down the Carleton Ravens 1-0 and earning themselves a first round bye in the upcoming playoffs.
Ontario Tech came into the game missing several key players nursing injuries.
Justin Irwin (Pickering, Ont.) ,
Omar Marzouk (Cairo, Egpyt),
Tyler Sukovski (Whitby, Ont.),
Jacob Begley (Markham, Ont.) and
Matthew Perovic (Toronto, Ont.) were all listed as out for the game.
The teams were locked in a tie throughout the first 63 minutes of the game until
Alexander Irwin (London, Ont.) found the back of the net off a missed chance from
Brett Springer (Bamberg, Ont.). Goalkeeper
Kevon Grant (Oshawa, Ont.) took a hard fall off of a save in the late stages and had to be replaced by
Matthew Mattila (Pickering, Ont.) but the Ridgebacks rallied around the moment, solidifying their defense, and nearly found another goal twice in the dying moments of the game.
With the win, the Ridgebacks have secured a top two spot in the OUA East, and will recieve a first round bye in the upcoming OUA Playoffs. You can catch them in action next on Saturday, with an opponent and time to be confirmed on Wednesday, when the first round of the playoffs kick off.
