OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech women's hockey team treated their fans to a exciting game in their home opener, but eventually fell 4-3 in over time to the Queen's Gaels.
The Ridgebacks fell behind early with Queen's netting two goals in the opening period, but Ontario Tech's highly effective power play unit began to go to work in the second quarter.
Julia Jackson (Uxbridge, Ont.) picked up her first goal of the season, assisted by
Nicole Escano (Kingston, Ont.). Escano would pick up another power play assist, as well as
Leigh Burkitt (Nepean, Ont.) as
Katie Mikkelsen (Oshawa, Ont.) found the back of the net.
Mackenna Krulicki (Wellesley, Ont.) registered her first goal mid way through the third to bring the Ridgebacks even and send the game into overtime, where just under a minute in, Scout Watkins-Southward sealed the game for Queen's.
Ontario Tech is back in action on Oct. 20 when they take on the visiting Laurier Golden Hawks at the Campus Ice Centre.
