OSHAWA, Ont. – Trivine Esprit (Scarborough, Ont.) of the men's soccer team and
Caitlyn Cote (Oshawa, Ont.) of the women's field lacrosse team have been named the Ontario Tech student-athletes of the week for the period ending September 25.
Cote, a third-year forensic psychology major, led the Ridgebacks to their first victory on Sunday in Kingston. In their 12-9 win over the McMaster Marauders, she lit up the scoresheet with seven goals. She followed that with five goals and an assist in a narrow 10-9 loss to the Laurier Golden Hawks to end the day. At the half they trailed 7-3, almost completing the comeback.
Esprit, a first-year kinesiology student, was a key piece in the Ridgebacks midfield on Sunday in their battle of nationally ranked teams against the TMU Bold. His consistent performance allowed the Ontario Tech men's soccer team to be fast in transition, helping to build their attack against a good TMU squad. His play helped lead to numerous scoring opportunities in the 1-0 loss.
The lacrosse program is now off until October 8 when they return home for a pair of games at Vaso's Field, while the soccer programs return home on October 1 for a doubleheader against the Laurentian Voyageurs.
The Ontario Tech student-athlete of the week award is presented by Subway located at 2069 Simcoe Street North Oshawa.
