The Ontario Tech women's soccer team came out on the wrong side of a 5-3 final to the Toronto Varsity Blues on Sunday afternoon in the eight-goal thriller.
Brogyn Tracey (Milton, Ont.) had a pair of goals, but it wasn't enough to lift the Ridgebacks to a victory.
Toronto opened the scoring in the 14
th minute with Lindsay Bosveld
finding the net to give the blues a 1-0 lead. Karly Hellstrom would double the lead in the 16
th minute to make it 2-0.
Eight minutes later,
Brogyn Tracey (Milton, Ont) put the Ridgebacks on the board finishing off a threaded through ball from
Tara Sisic (Toronto, Ont). Unfortunately the Varsity Blues were quick to respond and Toronto was up 3-1 seconds later.
Nikita Mohan (Ottawa, Ont.) cut the lead to one before Toronto scored in the 45th minute to take their two-goal lead into the half.
Tracey scored her second of the afternoon off a set piece as she volleyed it home to bring the Ridgebacks within one in the 63rd minute, but Toronto would kill all Ridgebacks momentum adding a fifth goal in the 67
th minute.
Alicia Chisholm (Woodbridge, Ont) made 11 saves
in the match.
The women soccer team will be back in action Sept. 24 when they face the Ottawa Gee-Gees at Vaso's Field in Oshawa.
