Ontario Tech's
Ramin Mohammadi and
Christopher Campoli were amongst those recognized with men's soccer major awards by Ontario University Athletics (OUA) on Thursday.
Both became the first in program history to win their respective awards.
Mohammadi was named the OUA East coach of the year. He led the Ridgebacks to a program best 11-1-0 record. They were also nationally ranked for the first time, peaking at No. 5 in the country.
Named OUA East MVP, Campoli led the OUA in scoring with 13 goals in 11 matches. His total was good enough for second in the country. He also led the OUA in assists with six, while also finishing second in Canada. This season he also broke the Ontario Tech scoring record, finishing the year with 31 goals over 35 matches since 2019.
"Congratulations to Ramin and Chris on their recognition for what was a great season for each of them," said Ontario Tech athletic director Scott Barker. "This was an outstanding year for the men's soccer program across the board and I'm proud of what they were able to achieve as a group. Each of the players recognized with league awards are very deserving and I'm proud of what each of them did to raise the bar for our program moving forward."
On top of being name MVP, Campoli was named a first team all-star. This is the second time being named an OUA all-star, previously being named to the first team in 2019. This season he also became the first Ridgeback in any sport to be named U SPORTS player of the week twice.
Joining Campoli as first team all-stars were
Jacob Begley and
Justin Irwin.
As centre back, Begley helped to keep opponents to only four goals in 12 conference matches, including nationally ranked teams to only three goals in three matches. This is also his third OUA all-star award, previously winning in 2019 and 2021. Irwin finished the season in the midfield with two assists, while also playing a key part in limiting the offensive threat of opponents.
Rounding out the Ridgeback award winners were second team all-stars
Matthew Mattila and
Trivine Esprit.
Mattila finished the season with a 6-0-0 conference record, no goals against – including a 2-0 victory over the nationally ranked Carleton Ravens. His five clean sheets were also a single-season record at Ontario Tech, while his six wins tied him atop the OUA. In the midfield, Esprit was key to the Ridgebacks offensive flow through the middle. He ended the season with a goal and an assist, but was also key to creating opportunities for the Ontario Tech offence to be successful in the opponents third of the pitch.
