Sam Gillis hadn't scored in his first 10 goals at Ontario Tech, but Saturday night he not only scored his first OUA goal – he earned his first hat-trick.
The Sydney, N.S. native lifted the Ridgebacks to a 4-3 win over the Nipissing Lakers to earn four points on the weekend.
After going down 2-0 to Nipissing, Gillis scored twice in the second to knot the game after 40 minutes.
James White (Peterborough, Ont.) scored his team-leading eighth goal of the year to put the Ridgebacks ahead before the Lakers knotted it again.
Gillis then scored the game-winning goal to cap off his offensive night.
William Desmarais (Sherbrooke, Que.) made 27 saves in the win, his third-straight victory in goal for Ontario Tech.
The Ridgebacks are now on the road for a pair of games next weekend against the UQTR Patriotes and McGill Redbirds.
