Patterson sets single-game point record in Ridgebacks win

OSHAWA, Ont. - Jack Patterson (Bedford, N.S.) set the Ridgeback record for points in a game, with five, in Saturday night's 7-3 win over the RMC Paladins.

The men's hockey record was previously set at four points in January 2009 by Josh Vatri, with several players tying that record over the next 10-plus seasons.

Patterson finished the night with his first OUA hat-trick, adding two assists, but he fell a goal short of tying the single-game goal record of four set by Mitch Bennett on Nov. 30, 2013 against the Nipissing Lakers.

In the win, Ontario Tech's JC Thivierge (Welland, Ont.) opened the scoring for the Ridgebacks, followed by Patterson's first goal. Andrew Suriyuth (Kingston, Ont.) had the third goal for the Ridgebacks before Patterson added another two for his first OUA hat-trick.

Austin Eastman (Lindsay, Ont.) and Evan White (St. John's, N.L.) rounded out their scoring in the third period.

RMC outshot Ontario Tech 35-31, with Michael Bullion (Anchorage, Alaska) making 32 saves in the Ridgebacks' win. Joey May made 20 saves in the loss, following his shutout win the night before.

The Ridgebacks will play one game next weekend on the road against the Queen's Gaels in Kingston.
