GUELPH, Ont. – Matthew Barron's (Yarmouth, N.S.) shootout tally was the game-deciding goal as the Ontario Tech men's hockey defeated the Guelph Gryphons 3-2 on the road Thursday night.
Jack Patterson (Bedford N.S.) opened the scoring for the Ridgebacks at the 3:16 mark of the third, tying the game 1-1.
JC Thivierge (Welland, Ont.) scored the go-ahead goal to put Ontario Tech ahead 2-1.
Connor Bramwell opened the scoring for the Gryphons 1:37 into the second period, assisted by Giordano Finoro and Lucas Chiodo. Zachary Roberts scored the game-tying goal 6:59 into the third.
Michael Bullion (Anchorage, Alaska) played his first full game of the season, saving 27 shots made, while Colton Incze and Gabe Mollot-Hill split their time in net and saved 26 for Guelph.
Cameron Hough (Uxbridge, Ont.) opened the shootout scoring as the first shooter, with Barron clinching it after Lucas Chiodo and Giordano Finoro were both unable to score for Guelph, giving the Ridgebacks a 3-2 win over the defending Queen's Cup champions.
The Ridgebacks will play their next game on the road against the York Lions on Saturday night. Puck drop is 7:15 p.m.
