OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech University men's hockey team is pleased to announce the commitment of Evan White to the program.
The St. John's, N.L. native is a left-handed defenceman, who split this past season with the Fredericton Red Wings and Edmundston Blizzard of the Maritime Hockey League (MHL).
"Evan was a huge add for us at the deadline," said Edmundston Blizzard general manager Steve Macpherson. "Instantly getting the best puck moving D-man in the league changes the makeup of your team. Evan is a great person on top of being a great player and without a doubt will succeed at Ontario Tech."
He finished the season with a career high 54 points (4G, 50A), recording 22 of those points in just 19 games with the Blizzard. White's offensive output placed him eighth in the league for assists and 17
th across all league scoring. He also led all league defencemen in scoring, including having a 15-point gap in assists.
"We are very excited to add Evan to our Ridgebacks' family," said Ontario Tech head coach
Curtis Hodgins. "He is a terrific puck mover who can skate and play in all situations for us and we expect him to be a key contributor on our power play with his vision and ability to get pucks on net. We are losing a couple veteran defencemen through graduation and we believe Evan can come in right away and eat up a lot of those minutes. Evan is a great addition to our program."
White was recognized for his stellar season as the MHL defenceman of the year. He also joined fellow Ridgeback commit Matt Barron (Yarmouth, N.S.) as a first-time league all-star.
Fellow MHL graduates, Pierre-Luc Lurette (Val-d'Amour, N.B.) and
Noah McMullin (Beaver Bank, N.S.) will welcome White on the Ridgebacks blue-line this fall.
