GUELPH, Ont. – Despite positive starts to the OUA curling championship, both Ontario Tech teams were handed a pair of losses on Saturday.
For the men, they led the Guelph Gryphons 6-5 going into the eighth end without hammer, but the Gryphons got their deuce to hand the Ridgebacks their first loss of the day.
Their day wrapped up with an 8-2 loss to the Laurier Golden Hawks, who clinched a spot in the OUA quarter-final round alongside the Carleton Ravens in Pool C. For the Ontario Tech men they now face the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Sunday at 12:45 p.m. to determine if they will advance to their first quarter-final since 2015.
On the women's side, the Ridgebacks opened the day with an 8-3 loss to the Guelph Gryphons before falling to the McMaster Marauders 7-2.
Ontario Tech will need to defeat the Algoma Thunderbirds tomorrow at 9 a.m., plus get some help tomorrow to have a shot at qualifying for their first OUA quarter-final in program history.
