WATERLOO, Ont. – The Ontario Tech University women's lacrosse team wrapped up their weekend with a tightly-contested 14-13 win over the Laurier Golden Hawks.
After three quarters the two teams were tied 9-9, but five fourth-quarter goals were the difference in Ontario Tech walking away with a 2-1 record this weekend.
Nicole Martindale (Brooklin, Ont.) continued to be dominant for the Ridgebacks, scoring three of her 10 goals in the fourth quarter.
Caitlyn Cote (Oshawa, Ont.) scored twice, while
Hannah Bragg (Oshawa, Ont.) and
Ayden Briggs (Oshawa, Ont.) each scored once.
Lauren Young (Fergus, Ont.) made 11 saves in the win.
"We had a fun weekened, met some adversity and persevered together to bring home two wins," said head coach
Liane Chornobay. "Everyone is working very hard and doing their part to ensure the team keeps being successful. We are so proud of all the time, sacrifice and dedication everyone has put in since day one."
Earlier in the day the Ridgebacks fell 22-8 to the Western Mustangs.
Martindale scored five times, while Briggs added two and Cote scored once. Young made 15 saves for the Ridgebacks in the loss.
Next Saturday the Ridgebacks travel to Toronto for a pair of games against the Toronto Varsity Blues and the defending OUA champion Trent Excalibur.
Following that they will have two more weekends of league play before hosting the OUA lacrosse championship at Vaso's Field from October 18-20.
