Ridgebacks drop second straight one-goal game

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech University women's hockey team lost their second exhibition game of the season 3-2 to the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday afternoon.

It was the Ridgebacks' first home game of the 2019-20 season, and second preseason game of the year. After dropping a tight 2-1 contest to Carleton in their first game, the Ridgebacks wasted little time in establishing a presence during the afternoon tilt. It took just over three minutes after puck drop for the home team to find the back of the net and jump out to an early lead.

The Ridgebacks played a solid team game and although the shots were not in their favour, Ontario Tech was strong with possession and controlled the pace of play for much of the game.

With two more preseason games remaining before puck drop on the OUA season, the Ridgebacks will look to iron out small details and continue to improve.
Emily Davis-Tope (Bendigo, Australia) opened the scoring when she found the puck in a net front scramble and slid it under the netminder.
Natalie Wozney (Whitby, Ont.) scored the Ridgebacks second goal, putting them up 2-1, placing a perfect shot short side just inside the post after collecting a rebound off a point shot.
• Kenedy Choma scored the first Laurier goal to tie the game 1-1, with Carly AuCoin making it 2-2 with the second Golden Hawks' goal.
• Emily Woodhouse gave Laurier the lead at 11:29 of the third period with her power play goal, which stood as the game winner.
Brooke Vial (Port Moody, B.C.) started the game making 17 saves and surrendered one goal. Celine Tessier (Chapleau, Ont.) replaced Vial halfway through the game and made 14 saves on 16 shots.
• Victoria Kelaiditis played all 60 minutes for Laurier, making 21 saves in the win.
