MONTREAL, Ont. – With a loss to the McGill Redmen on Saturday night, the UOIT men's hockey team had their season come to a close.
The Redmen defeated the Ridgebacks 6-2 in each of their opening games of the best-of-three series – sweeping the Ridgebacks in the opening-round.
This was the first time the two teams had met in the postseason during UOIT's brief history.
The Ridgebacks, who finished with a 14-9-5 regular season record, have only made it past the first round once in program history, which was a 2-1 series victory over the Queen's Gaels in 2016.
• UOIT's goals came from
Jake Bricknell (Port Perry, Ont.) and
Jack Patterson (Bedford, N.S.), with Patterson's at the 19:45 mark of the third period when the game was out of reach.
• McGill had a strong start, outshooting the Ridgebacks 12-2 in the opening period. They led 4-0 in the first intermission with goals by Samuel Tremblay, Christophe Lalonde, Jordan Fournier and Keanu Yamamoto.
• Tremblay added a second goal in the third period, with Maximillian Daigle rounding out the Redmen scoring.

Michael Bullion (Anchorage, Alaska) made 30 saves in the Game 2 loss for UOIT, his first postseason appearance for the Ridgebacks.
• Louis-Philip Guindon won both games for McGill, this time turning aside 20 Ridgeback shots.
