UOIT season comes to a close in St. Catharines

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The UOIT Ridgebacks women's hockey team had their 2018-19 campaign come to an end following a 3-2 road loss versus the Brock Badgers on Friday night.

After being eliminated from playoff contention following a heartbreaking 4-3 loss versus the Queen's Gaels a week ago, UOIT finished outside the playoff picture with a 9-13-1-1 (W-L-OTW-OTL) record this season.

The Ridgebacks showed serious fight in their final game. After falling behind in both the first and second periods, UOIT was able to find an equalizer each time, outshooting Brock 38-29 during the 60 minutes of action. However, in the third UOIT was unable to find another after the Badgers scored their third of the game midway through the final frame.
  • Carley Blomberg opened the scoring for the Badgers at the 13:06 mark of the first period.
• Fifth-year captain Kassidy Nauboris (Brampton, Ont.) tied her single season career-high with her 15th goal of the season, scoring a pinpoint wrist-shot into the top right corner, evening the game just 30 seconds into the second period.
• After Maggie Spratt-Mallick put Brock back up 2-1, Sophia Christopherson (Langley, B.C.) recorded her first career OUA goal with a seeing-eye shot from the point, once again tying the game 2-2.
• With her second goal of the game, and fifth goal of the season, Spratt-Mallick secured the game-winner for the Badgers.
  • Briar Hughes (Thornton, Ont.) started the season finale, making 26 saves for the Ridgebacks.
• Under serious duress throughout all 60 minutes, Jensen Murphy picked up the win for Brock with 36 saves on the night.
