OSHAWA, Ont. – Fadi Salback (Bowmanville, Ont.) of the men's soccer team and
Taijah Henderson (Ajax, Ont.) of the women's soccer team have been named Ontario Tech student-athletes of the week for the period ending October 6.
Salback, a first-year forward and software engineering major, had a successful weekend offensively for the Ridgebacks. He scored the game-winning goal in both matches, including the only goal in the opening half of Saturday's 3-0 victory over the RMC Paladins. On Sunday at home he scored three times in a 4-0 win over the Queen's Gaels, becoming the first Ontario Tech player with a hat trick since
Fabio Campoli on Oct. 16, 2016. His goal total for the 2019 season is now at nine, good enough for second overall in OUA scoring.
Henderson, a fifth-year striker and criminology & justice studies student, returned to the pitch for the Ridgebacks with a pair of goals. She scored the first two for Ontario Tech in their 3-0 victory over the RMC Paladins on Saturday at home.
This weekend is the final home weekend for the women's program with important matches against the Nipissing Lakers and Laurentian Voyageurs. They are currently two points out of the final playoff position held by the Trent Excalibur. For the men, they sit fourth in the OUA east heading into their final four matches. Their season will end at home on Sunday, Oct. 20 against the Toronto Varsity Blues.
The Ontario Tech student-athlete of the week award is presented by Subway located at 2069 Simcoe Street North in Oshawa.
