TORONTO, Ont. – The Ontario Tech University women's field lacrosse team was unable to earn a victory on Saturday as they battled a pair of tough opponents in the Queen's Gaels and Trent Excalibur.
They opened with a 16-10 loss to Queen's.
Nicole Martindale (Brooklin, Ont.) finished with five of the Ridgebacks goals and an assist.
Caitlyn Cote (Oshawa, Ont.) scored three times with an assist, while
Abigail Giesbrecht (Oshawa, Ont.) and
Anna Twohey (Port Perry, Ont.) each scored a goal apiece.
In the 17-6 loss to the Trent Excalibur, Martindale scored five times. Cote scored once, while assisting on three of Martindale's goals.
Lauren Young (Fergus, Ont.) was in goal for the Ridgebacks in each game.
"It was a tough day in terms of the scoreboard, but we learned a lot and saw only hard work and progress from our athletes," said head coach
Liane Chornobay. "Our defence, led by
Lauren Young in net, has come so far since our first weekend and we are confident the pieces will come together for our championship weekend in two weeks. Our belief in ourselves and what our team can accomplish together is only growing stronger."
Next weekend the OUA regular season wraps up in Toronto with games against the York Lions and Toronto Varsity Blues. Following that the Ridgebacks will host the OUA championship from October 18-20 at Vaso's Field.
