OSHAWA, Ont. – Fadi Salback (Bowmanville, Ont.) has made history by being named the first OUA rookie of the year from the Ontario Tech University men's soccer program.
Salback earned rookie of the year honours after leading the OUA in goal scoring. The first year forward set the Ridgebacks' single-season scoring record with 16 goals, which was previously set at 10. He finished three goals ahead of Brock's Jared Agyemang in the scoring race and of his 16 goals, six of them were game winners. Along with rookie of the year, Salback was also named an east division first team all-star.
Joining his teammate, Chris Campoli (Woodbridge, Ont.) was also named a first team all-star. Finishing second in the OUA for assists with seven and eighth in goals with six, the midfielder was a steady presence on the pitch for the Ridgebacks in his first year with the team.
Ontario Tech also saw
Jean Paul Ajala-Alexis (Oshawa, Ont.) earned his first all-star nod, earning second team all-star. Ajala-Alexis provided a strong one-two offensive punch with Salback, as the forward finished the year third in goals (nine) and assists (five).
Rounding out the Ridgebacks award winners is second year defender
Jacob Begley (Markham, Ont.). As team captain, Begley was a steady presence on the defensive line for the Ridgebacks, helping cut the teams goals against by 10 from the 2018 season. Like his teammates, this was the first all-star nod he received.
The OUA men's soccer championship gets underway Friday at York University, with the Carleton Ravens kicking off against the Guelph Gryphons and the host Lions taking on the Toronto Varsity Blues.
