OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech University women's lacrosse team had a positive conclusion to their regular season on Saturday as they continue preparations to host the OUA lacrosse championship next weekend at Vaso's Field.
Ontario Tech opened with a 24-0 victory over the York Lions, which they followed with an 11-11 draw against the Toronto Varsity Blues.
Nicole Martindale (Brooklin, Ont.) scored five times in the win over York, while
Caitlyn Cote (Oshawa, Ont.) tallied four.
The Ridgebacks had 11 other players find the back of the goal. Multiple goal scorers also included
Ayden Briggs (Oshawa, Ont.) with three and
Abigail Giesbrecht (Oshawa, Ont.) and
Hannah Bragg (Oshawa, Ont.) with two apiece.
Scoring individual tallies were
Alex Cafik-Irwin (Vancouver, B.C.),
Dale Wilson (Saskatoon, Sask.),
Anna Twohey (Port Perry, Ont.),
Keanna Browne (Ajax, Ont.),
Victoria Uchida (Etobicoke, Ont.),
Catherine Vinkovic (Oshawa, Ont.),
Stephanie Guay (Verner, Ont.) and
Amanda Di Mascio (Georgetown, Ont.).
Martindale scored seven times against the Varsity Blues, which gave her a team-leading 78 goals in OUA action this year. Rounding out the Ontario Tech scoring was Cote with three and Uchida with a single goal.
Sunday afternoon the OUA regular season concludes, which will determine seeding for the OUA lacrosse championship running October 18-20 in Oshawa at Vaso's Field. Ontario Tech's opening game has yet to be determined, but will be announce early in the week once standings are finalized.
