Elser scores hat-trick in Ridgebacks rout of No. 5 Gaels

KINGSTON, Ont. – After suffering a shootout loss at home on Friday, the Ridgebacks men's hockey team flipped the script on Saturday in Kingston with a 5-1 victory over the Queen's Gaels.

Taking three of four points to open 2019 has the Ridgebacks fifth in the OUA east division, six points out of first place and now just two points behind the No. 5 ranked Gaels.

Captain Danny Elser (Hopewell Juncton, N.Y.) finished the night with a hat-trick for a four-point night to become the team's leading scorer with 10 goals and 21 points.

Next weekend the Ridgebacks will take a trip north to face the Nipissing Lakers (5-12-0) on Friday and Laurentian Voyageurs (5-11-1) on Saturday.
Danny Elser scored back-to-back goals on the power play in the second period to put the Ridgebacks ahead 3-0 before adding an empty-net goal in the final seconds to seal the deal.
Jake Bricknell (Port Perry, Ont.) opened the scoring 13:33 into the first period, while the Ridgebacks fourth goal came from Jordan Ross (Kronau, Sask.) to round out a three-goal second period.
• Slater Doggett scored the lone Gaels goal 18 seconds into the third period.
