PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - Competing against the Trent Excalibur and Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday afternoon, the UOIT Ridgebacks women's lacrosse team dropped both contests 15-6 and 17-8, respectively.
In the opening game of the day versus the host Excalibur, the Ridgebacks were led offensively by first-year attack
Samantha Gates (Uxbridge, Ont.) and her hat-trick of goals. Fellow first-year attack
Brooke Watson Courtice, Ont.) notched two, while
Julia Vinkovic (Oshawa, Ont.) and
Elyse Lockhart (Ajax, Ont.) each recorded one goal and one assist.
Gates remained the hot hand for the Ridgebacks adding a goal and an assist in UOIT's second match of the day versus the Varsity Blues. Watson also registered another two goal outing, while Vinkovic,
Victoria Uchida (Etobicoke, Ont.), and
Brianna Nicolas (Ajax, Ont.) all netted one.
The Ridgebacks will look to rebound with their final road series on Saturday, Oct. 6 before returning home for their first ever competitions on the freshly turfed Vaso's field the following two weekends. Competition on Oct. 6 will see UOIT challenge Trent and Queen's in Hamilton, with start times of 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
