PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team kicked off their year with a 2-0 shutout of the York Lions on Thursday night in Peterborough.
Megan Johnston (Goderich, Ont.) had a goal and an assist in the opening game of the year, while
Kassidy Nauboris (Brampton, Ont.) scored the Ridgebacks' second goal of the game.
Second-year goaltender
Brooke Vial (Port Moody, B.C.) earned the shutout in the win, playing all 60 minutes for the Ridgebacks.
"We had a solid effort and saw lots of good things tonight," said head coach
Justin Caruana. "There is still lots of work to do, but we have a lot of positives to start with."
The Ridgebacks continue their preseason on the road this weekend in the U.S. against Robert Morris University. Puck drop is 7 p.m. on Saturday.
