OSHAWA, Ont. - The UOIT Ridgebacks women's soccer team picked up their first win of the 2018 OUA campaign and their first win on the freshly-turfed Vaso's Field, defeating the visiting Carleton Ravens 1-0 on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 1).
Dominating possession throughout, the Ridgebacks were successful in both shutting down any Ravens forward momentum, while consistently playing in the Carleton half.
The lone goal of the game came early in the contest as first-year midfielder
Michele Dell'Aquila (Vaughan, Ont.) out-leaped the Carleton defence to send a header over the Ravens goalkeeper. The goal is Dell'Aquila's first career OUA marker and came off the cross of second-year defence
Julia Listro (Toronto, Ont.) for the assist.
UOIT continued to create chances, including strong efforts up front from first-year midfielder
Morgan Wilson (Ajax, Ont.), fourth-year striker
Taijah Henderson (Ajax, Ont.), and fifth-year midfielder
Katherine Koehler-Grassau (Greely, Ont.). Defensively, Listro and fourth-year centreback
Mikaela Tierney (King City, Ont.) kept their marks.
The game also proved to be monumental for Ridgebacks second-year keeper
Olivia Tierney (King City, Ont.) who earned both her first career OUA win and first career clean sheet in the victory recording three saves.
UOIT will look to continue their winning ways tomorrow (Sept. 1) when they challenge the Ottawa Gee-Gee's at Vaso's Field. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
