Ridgebacks rebound in win over Lancers

WINDSOR, Ont. - After falling behind 2-0 in the opening period, the UOIT Ridgebacks men's hockey team scored the next three straight goals to secure a 3-2 win over the Winsor Lancers on Saturday night.

The win comes on the heels of a three-game slide for the Ridgebacks, including a tough 7-4 loss versus the Lancers the night before.

Following the slow start, which was the result of early penalty trouble that included a 10-minute misconduct penalty, the Ridgebacks drove the offensive pressure outshooting the Lancers 30-25 on the evening.

UOIT will look to continue that offensive drive when they welcome the Nipissing Lakers and Laurentian Voyageurs to the Campus Ice Centre next weekend. The Ridgebacks opened their season against the northern duo, picking up identical 5-2 road victories earlier this month.
  • Fifth-year veteran Mike Robinson (Stouffville, Ont.) opened the scoring for the Ridgebacks with his fourth goal of the season just 1:50 into the second period.
• Off the assists of Robinson and Kyle Locke (Aurora, Ont.), Malik Johnson (Montreal, Que.) drew the game even with the Lancers at the 6:02 mark of the third period. The goal was also Johnson's fourth of the season.
• With under 10 minutes remaining, third-year forward Jack Patterson (Bedford, N.S.) score the game-winner and his first of the season to secure the road win for the Ridgebacks.
• Windsor's first period goals were scored by Alex Friesen and Ian Parker.
  • Following the tough start, first-year Ridgebacks netminder Michael Bullion (Anchorage, Alaska) found his form, making 23 saves en route to his third win of the season.
• Jonathan Reinhart made 27 stops for the Lancers in the home loss.
