Ridgebacks' scoring woes continue against York

NORTH YORK, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team was shutout for the third time this season as they dropped a 2-0 decision to the York Lions on the road Saturday afternoon.

The Ridgebacks (6-11-2) have lost six of seven games to begin 2018 and are in 11th place overall in the OUA standings. UOIT entered the game tied with the Lions (6-10-3) who move eight points out of a playoff position with the win.

Eva Hall made 16 saves in her first career shutout in her third year between the pipes for York. UOIT managed to get eight shots on goal in the third period but Hall made several key pad saves in what was her first win in four starts this season.

UOIT had six power play opportunities in which the special teams unit generated more scoring chances as the game went on, but ultimately failed to find the back of the net. The Ridgeback power play has struggled this season scoring just seven goals on 80 opportunities.

Sophomores Christina Chin and Kelsey McHolm were the goal scorers for York, each beating Briar Hughes (Thornton, Ont.) in the second period. York was 1-for-3 with the man-advantage. Hughes made 19 saves on 21 York shots on goal, coming into the game off a shutout win over Western.

UOIT will look to turn things around on Sunday afternoon when they take on the No. 7 ranked Guelph Gryphons on the road. Game time at the Gryphon Centre is 2 p.m.
