OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT women's hockey team will look to rebound after a tough 3-2 loss to the Windsor Lancers on Friday night at the Campus Ice Centre.
UOIT held the lead twice in the game starting with
Alex Frigon's (Dartmouth, N.S.) goal 8:15 into the first period.
Larissa Borowiec evened it up with a power play marker with 2:18 to go in the opening 20 minutes as the Ridgebacks held a 9-8 shot advantage.
Chelsea Ball (Maple, Ont.) returned the favour with the Ridgebacks' own power play goal 10:44 into the second as she tapped in a beautiful cross-crease pass by linemate
Kassidy Nauboris (Brampton, Ont.).
Unfortunately, Jasmine Morning scored an equalizer for the Lancers exactly three minutes later to take a 2-2 tie into the last five minutes of the game, when Teah Burke scored off a scramble in front of
Celine Tessier (Chapleau, Ont.) to take Windsor's first lead of the night.
Pulling Tessier, who made 26 saves in the loss, with two minutes to go wasn't enough to provide a spark as Windsor held on for their 3-2 win. Morgan Farrow made 22 saves in the Lancers' victory.
UOIT's second loss of the season to the Lancers puts them 11 points out of a playoff spot as they prepare for the Western Mustangs on Saturday afternoon. Western is hosting the U SPORTS women's hockey championship March 15-18 and currently sit third in the OUA standings.
Puck drop is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
