Ten straight wins for UOIT women’s soccer

Box Score PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – The No. 2 ranked UOIT women's soccer team won their tenth straight OUA conference game as they beat Trent 2-1 at the Excalibur's annual homecoming event.

With the victory, UOIT sweeps the season series against Trent winning both games by a score of 2-1.

The Ridgebacks and Cape Breton are the only teams in U SPORTS without a loss or a tie in 2017. Cape Breton is 6-0-0 to lead the AUS while UOIT is 10-0-0 and nine points up on the Ottawa Gee-Gees (6-1-3) for top spot in the OUA eastern conference standings.

Cassandra Sribny (Pickering, Ont.) opened up scoring in the first half, as she notched her sixth goal of the season, putting her tied for fourth in league scoring. The fifth-year senior has 31 career goals, the most of any player in UOIT program history.

A half hour into the match, Trent started to apply pressure on the attack and forced Victoria Savage (Woodbridge, Ont.) to make a diving save to keep them off the board. However, a couple of minutes later, Trent would score off a deflection to level the game.

It took a while for the next goal to be scored but Nicole Zajac (Mississauga, Ont.) finally broke the tie a half hour into the second half. The go-ahead goal was one for the highlight reel as Alyssia Robichaud (Toronto, Ont.) sent in a cross that Zajac received on her chest and hit a side volley to the opposite corner.

UOIT would shut down Trent for the remaining 15 minutes to spoil the homecoming party.

Up next for UOIT is two home games against Northern opponents in Laurentian (Saturday) and Nipissing (Sunday). Both games kick off at the Oshawa Civic at noon and are a part of the Ridgebacks' think pink imitative in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and SickKids Foundation.
