UOIT reversed their fortunes in Queen’s

KINGSTON, Ont. – Having surrendered last minute goals in four straight losses, the UOIT men's soccer team turned the table on Saturday afternoon as George Meditskos (Toronto, Ont.) scored in the sixth minute of injury time to tie the Queen's Gaels 1-1.

It was an emotionally roller coaster for the Ridgebacks, as captain Fabio Campoli (Frosinone, Italy) hit the crossbar on a penalty kick to open injury time. Despite the punch in the gut, the Ridgebacks bounced back to set up Meditskos for the tying goal.

Queen's opening goal came late in the first half as Rory McParland tipped the ball over the hands of Nicholas Miller (Oshawa, Ont.) to Patrick Van Belleghem who found the back of the net.

Miller made two saves in the draw, as did his counterpart Alex Jones for Queen's.

UOIT took four of a possible six points against Queen's this season, having beat them 1-0 at Vaso's Field earlier in the season.

UOIT (3-4-1) is in a three-way tie for fourth place in the OUA east region, tied with Nipissing (3-3-1) and Queen's (3-3-1). The standings were juggled up this week as Ryerson self-disclosed an ineligible player, in turn forfeiting the results of their first six games including a single win over UOIT.

The Ridgebacks return to Kingston on Sunday for a match against RMC. The Paladins (0-4-3) are winless this season but have tied two straight matches against Nipissing and Trent.
