NORTH YORK, Ont. – For the second time this season, the UOIT women's field lacrosse team was on the road for a pair of games.
The Ridgebacks opened the day at York University with an 11-5 victory over the host York Lions.
Julia Vinkovic (Oshawa, Ont.) opened the scoring in the fourth minute, which was quickly answered by York in the fifth minute. They went ahead 2-1 at the 12:38 mark, but UOIT started to make a push back.
Elyse Lockhart (Ajax, Ont.) tied the game two minutes later before
Sabrina Lyon (Bowmanville, Ont.) put the Ridgebacks ahead 3-2. Just under four minutes before the half York scored another tying goal, but Vinkovic and
Lindsay Tomlinson (Pickering, Ont.) put together two quick goals for the Ridgebacks to lead 5-3 at halftime.
UOIT's defence held York to only two goals in the second half as they controlled the play with goals by
Brianna Nicolas (Ajax, Ont.), Lockhart and Vinkovic adding to the Ridgebacks' total.
Holly Collins (Oshawa, Ont.) also added three goals in the second half to match Vinkovic's game-leading three goals.
Kassia Almeida (Whitby, Ont.) earned the victory in goal for UOIT.
Their second match of the day against the Queen's Gaels didn't quite go their way as the Ridgebacks were on the losing end of a 14-1 game.
Next weekend the Ridgebacks are at home for a pair of games at the Oshawa Civic. They open the day at 8:30 a.m. against the York Lions before playing the Toronto Varsity Blues at 1:45 p.m.
