MONTREAL – The UOIT men's hockey team dropped their fourth straight game as the No. 6 McGill Redmen picked up a 4-2 victory on Saturday night in Montreal.
McGill's power play was the difference in the game, as three of their four goals came with the man-advantage. Going into the game the Redmen power play unit had struggled failing to score in four straight games where they went 0-for-19.
Jerome Verrier was a key player on the special teams unit as he was in on every one of McGill's goals.He finished the night with one goal and three assists.
Christophe Lalonde also had a multi-point game for McGill, scoring two goals and adding an assist while Alexandre Sills recorded the game-winner with 19 seconds remaining in the second period.
Tyler Mayea (Burlington, Ont.) and
Mike Robinson (Stouffville, Ont.) would score goals for UOIT. Mayea's strike in the second period to tie the game 1-1 was just the second goal of his career (first of the year).
Josh Maguire (Cobourg, Ont,) recorded an assist.
For Robinson, the fourth year forward has scored a team-high six goals this year, bringing his career total to 25.
Ben Blasko (Kingston, Ont.) and
Jesse Baird (Brampton, Ont.) picked up assists on the late third period marker to cut the Redmen lead to 4-2.
Brendan O'Neill (Ilderton, Ont.) made 32 saves in between the pipes for UOIT. His counterpart Louis-Philip Guindon stopped 23 shots, as he went on to earn his sixth win of the season.
UOIT remains in eighth place with a 2-5-1 record, one point up on the Laurentian Voyageurs for the final spot in the playoffs. McGill is 8-2-0 to start the season and is atop of the OUA eastern conference standings.
The game put an end to UOIT's heritage trip, as the Ridgebacks got off the bus and traveled to Montreal on a train. UOIT will return home next weekend for games against Queen's (Friday) and Ottawa (Saturday).
NOTE: The game was delayed for 28 minutes in the third period due to a fire alarm.
